The comparisons that trip people up
- Wear layer beats thickness. A 12 mil floor in any thickness is a light-duty floor. 20 mil is solid residential; 30 mil is commercial. Compare mil to mil.
- "Installed from $X" bundles hide the material grade. Ask for the material-only price and the wear layer — then you can compare anything.
- Underlayment attached or not? Ours is attached (IXPE); if it isn't, add $0.50–$0.75/sq ft.
Budgeting a whole home
