How to Buy a Quartz Slab Direct in the Bay Area (and What It Should Cost)

The slab-buying playbook nobody explains: slab sizes, 2 cm vs 3 cm, what published per-slab pricing looks like, and how to get material + fabrication quoted as one number.

Most homeowners never see a slab price. The industry quotes "installed square footage" — a single number blending material, fabrication, install, and whatever margin the day calls for. Buying the slab direct, with a published price, is how you take control of the biggest line in that bundle. Here's the playbook.

1. Know your sizes

  • Standard/jumbo slabs run roughly 55–57 sq ft (e.g. 63"×126", 63"×130").
  • Super jumbo (79"×138", ~76 sq ft) exists for big islands and seam-free runs.
  • Measure your counters, add ~10% for cuts and grain matching, and you know how many slabs the job takes. Most kitchens: one jumbo, sometimes two.

2. Know what a slab should cost

Name-brand quartz (Viatera, Silestone, and peers) typically publishes retail between $1,300 and $2,400 per jumbo slab depending on pattern complexity — calacattas at the top, solids at the bottom. Anything quoted only as "installed from $79/sq ft" is hiding where the material sits in that range.

Right now our Viatera Hot Deals page lists twelve colors between $695 and $1,595 per slab — a limited manufacturer allocation with published prices on every card, through Dec 31, 2026.

3. 2 cm vs 3 cm isn't about looks

Edges are built up either way; the eye can't tell an assembled 2 cm mitered edge from 3 cm stock. 2 cm is lighter and the norm for modern work; 3 cm skips edge lamination on simple profiles. Pick by fabricator preference, not fear.

4. Get the whole number, in writing

Slab price + fabrication + install + sink cutouts + edge profile — that's the real quote. We do exactly that: pick your slab online at its published price, send us the layout, and the quote comes back as one itemized number. If any line looks high, you can see it — which is the entire point of buying direct.
